The Political Ideas in a Digital Age (PIDA) Master’s program, taught entirely in English, examines how digital technologies and artificial intelligence are transforming politics, societies, and international relations. It explores the evolution of political ideas and democratic practices in a context where technological innovation reshapes communication, governance, and global power dynamics.Anchored in the mention Études Européennes et Internationales, this parcours offers a strong international perspective. Students analyze how digital transformation affects geopolitical balances, European and global regulation of technology, and ethical debates surrounding AI and data governance. The program provides the tools to understand digital technology not only as a technical phenomenon but as a major factor in contemporary international politics.At the crossroads of political science, philosophy, and digital studies, PIDA prepares graduates to contribute to the ethical and strategic management of digital change. The curriculum combines theoretical reflection with practical skills for international project management, digital communication, and responsible innovation. Students learn to navigate the challenges of digital transformation in public institutions, international organizations, and global businesses—equipping them to play an active role in shaping a more ethical and sustainable digital future.

Objectifs

Les + de la formation
Entirely taught in English, with an international cast of students3 options for the S4: Master's thesis, internship or international mobilityGrounded in research with teachers from 4 research centers at CY (AGORA, LT2D, ETIS, CPJP), and two research seminarsInterdisciplinarity (political science, sociology area studies, economics, law and computer science).

Aménagements particuliers
Un aménagement des études est possible pour les étudiants, permettant de pouvoir concilier le bon déroulement de leur formation avec leur situation particulière ou un engagement en dehors de leurs études.

Semester1: History of Political Ideas; Ethics of Digital Technologies; Information Theory; International Institutions; Regional Geopolitics I; Academic and Professional skills I
Semester 2: Science and Politics; Ethics of AI; Digital Law; Media and Power; Regional Geopolitics II; Academic and Professional skills II
Semester 3: Transitions and Liberal Democracies; Media and Citizenship; Digital Tools applied to Social Science; Data Protection and New Digital Tools; Geopolitics of AI; Academic and Professional skills III - AI in research
Semester 4: students must choose one of three options to validate:- a Master’s thesis under supervision- a six-month internship or professionalization period with a detailed internship report, or- a semester abroad with MA PIDA partners or CYUIn addition, students will be asked to follow at least two sessions of research seminars per semester. Students' involvement in associative activities at CY might be taken into account.

Stages
An internship in an organization for those who write the internship report; an internship in one of CY's research center for those who write a Master's thesis ; a tutored project will help evaluate the skill "Acquiring Research and Professional Skills."

Admission
Public cible
Bachelor graduates in political science, cultural studies, communication studies, sociology, history, anthropology, economics, international law (the list is non-exhaustive).
Pré-requis obligatoires
A bachelor degree (or equivalent) is necessary.
Critères d’admission
We are looking for graduates with a 2:1 or above in their first degree. Non-standard applications will be considered on their merits and mature students are encouraged to apply.The MA is taught in English and requires a good level to follow and write in English. If your application is selected, an oral interview may be organized.

Our success rate in M1 and M2 is generally above 90%.
Poursuite d'études
5 to 10 % of students decide to pursue a doctoral degree. 4 students so far have obtained a doctoral contract from CY or from another institution.
Débouchés professionnels (métiers)
Here are some examples of the positions our alumnis currently hold: data analyst, digital communication manager, digital health consultant, doctoral student (under contract), education project manager, European project manager, conflict resolution expert, journalist.
Dimension internationale
Mobilité
International mobility is not compulsory. However, this is a possibility offered to French and EUwith 4 agrements specific to the PIDA Master and dozens of other possibilities within the agreements negociated by the FE2I department.
